How to Substitute Sugar Free Jello for Regular Jello

Sugar free jello works perfectly in the place of regular jello and is a perfect way of cutting calories in jello recipes without sacrificing any flavor. Sugar free jello is always great for making diabetic desserts.

Something that can be confusing however is that a package of sugar free jello is 0.3 oz and a package of regular jello is 3 oz. So, is a package of sugar free jello equal to a package of regular jello?

It Is Easier Than You Think to Substitute Jello Varieties

The answer is that each jello variety requires the same amount of water to make it up. Sugar takes up more room than artificial sweetener so the sugar free jello packet will not have the same volume of contents. If you are substituting regular jello for sugar free jello, simply use the same amount of water or other liquid in the recipe you are following and your jello dessert will come out beautifully.

In some areas, you will find the "Sugar Free Jell-o" in a 0.6 oz. size. This can be substituted for the regular jello bur will require a little bit of math on your part. Now the easy way to do this if all you can get is the 0.6 oz. Sugar Free size is to simply double all the other ingredients in the recipe and use the 0.6 oz to replace the 3.0 oz regular jello.

A little trickier way but if you do not want twice as much dessert (who doesn't) is to cut the jello in half. Easier said then done in the powder form the best thing to do here is to make the jello per the package directions being careful to fully dissolve the jello in the boiling water. Then place in a large measuring cup and divide it into two pouring half into dishes for simple plain jello servings then using the rest in your recipe as the directions call for maintaining all measurements the way they are.

These tips should help you the next time you want to make a lovely dessert for a diabetic friend or loved one or just want to cut as few tasty calories out of your diet.
