Using Different Flavors of Jello in Jello Recipes

Sometimes a jello recipe will give you the choice of which jello flavor to use. It might say to use red jello, so you can choose from strawberry, cherry, raspberry or cranberry jello. There are some other ones too, like strawberry-banana and strawberry daiquiri, so it depends which jello flavors you can find. Cranberry jello is only available in November and December.

Jello Fusion Flavors

If you are going to combine several flavors of jello, you might like to pick flavors that you particularly like together. If you are making a patriotic jello dessert, you might be making a triple striped jello mold in red, white, and blue.

In this case, the red could be any red jello, the white will probably be a creamy gelatin layer, and the blue layer will be blueberry jello. Another way of making a dessert like that would be to use gelatin sheets instead of jello. Then you could add food coloring drops for the colors and use any fruit flavors you happened to like.

You can use any flavors when you use gelatin sheets because gelatin does not have its own flavor. Jello is a combination of gelatin, color and flavor, so using jello is often easier than using gelatin and then flavoring and coloring it yourself.

Choosing the Best Jello Flavors

There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to choosing which flavors of jello to use in your jello recipes. If you want to make an orange jello topped strawberry mousse recipe, you can use any flavor of jello instead of orange jello.

Another contrasting berry flavor might be nice, in which case you can choose from raspberry, cherry, or blueberry, or another citrus flavor - lemon and lime jello both go well with strawberry mousse.

Different Jello Colors in Big Jello Mold Recipes

If you are making a big jello mold, you can even combine two or three different flavors. Jello comes in three ounce packs, so if you need to use two packs, you could combine two flavors of jello. This will also merge their colors.

If you want separate layers, then you need to make the jello up in different bowls or jugs and only pour the second one over the first one when it has set. There is no limit on what you can do with jello. Just use your creativity and imagination and see what kinds of wiggly, wobbly delights you come up with.

Garnishes for Multi-Flavored Jello

If you are making a seven layer jello mold or a five layer jello mold, for example, the layers are impressive enough. You do not need a lot of garnish for such a dessert. If you did want to serve something with such a dessert, try something basic like a few mint leaves.

With other jello dessert recipes, you can serve whipped cream, slivered, or chopped nuts, chocolate sauce or pieces of fruit, depending on the jello recipe. Jello is a fun food and you can be really inventive with it.

If you want to change a jello recipe a bit, either by using different jello flavors or different garnishes, go for it. Jello is a fruity ingredient and all fruits go together so you cannot really go wrong.
